Animations and "Salute" spirit

The co-operation
The club of South London Warlords is certainly a significant club which can mobilize its members and the voluntary ones as well at the time of Salute but also throughout the year. Indeed, the preparation of Salute is perpetual and Salute 2006 is already envisaged. But this is not all: it is also necessary to count on the co-operation between the clubs which go visit their respective conventions and bring demo or participative game.

Moreover, the main thing and more prestigious contest of Salute are neither a contest of painting nor a tournament but a contest of games. Its objective is to reward the best ludic innovations, the most beautiful sceneries, the most beautiful armies as well as the most succeeded participative game.

The demonstrations and the games
This framework of co-operation but also of competition gives light to astonishing things like "Cloudships of Mars". This games is a simulation of flying ships, on the scale 28 mm in the universe of "Space 1889". These ships are converted or created for the game. They evolve on a play-ground of the size of a half-ground of tennis. The referees move them and contribute to the resolution of the orders which the players give via the control panels distributed all around the ground (one cannot even any more tell this game a tabble-top one !).

The giant but always playable dioramas are numerous and could not be named in the little of place which is given to me. Indeed, the only list of the stands provided with the program of the show, written as a police force of size six, holds on a whole page!

One of other attractions headlights of this show is its "bring & buy" (deposit sale). It is organized by a club partner and is an enormous success! It is well the only place or the visitors trample in front of the displays. It extends on 40 meters from tables covered with games, figurines and sceneries.

Lastly, it is really pleasant to see that this show gathers all the kinds of mini wargames: prehistoric one (I don’t joke !), futuristic, world wars, fantasy, …. All the scales find their place there and much animations are directed towards the neophytes and the young public. This multitude cohabits in an excellent environment and I can only encourage you with you to make there next year!

Special thank to John Treadaway, president of South London Warlords, for the time spent with me.
