Battle report - Tutorial
You have countless victories and you want everybody know this. You want to share with others your tactics and write down your most fantastic battles on the net. So read this tutorial “You can write a battle report too”.
Notes Unless you don’t have the AI Prime memory, it is better to note the actions of your models (and the actions of your opponent’s models). This will take a few minutes but it will ease your work later. You would rely on your opponent understanding because this will slightly break the battle pace. Personally I make a quick drawing of the battlefield for each turn. On each drawing I note the position of each model at the beginning of the turn. Then a couple of symbols will describe what your models have done. Actions to note are of course moves, shots (I note only the wounding shots, but it’s quite funny to record the repeated failure of a Viridian Sniper), stunned, wounded and casualties. We should not forget the strange stuff we, Koralon players, have access to. To make your Report more interesting you could record unbelievable moves, outstanding actions and tacky dice rolls. Pictures Let’s draw. We need a picture that represents sceneries which are important for gameplay (obstruction, zone, multi-level floor, covers, and objective area). To make this I use Paint (yes that’s true: Paint, the poor soft installed with Windows). To ease the Urbanzone Webmaster life, we create a 500 x 500 picture (so he doesn’t need to resize it). Now you can show your drawing skill. Keep in mind it must be understandable to others and not overloaded. Example: ![]() Save it as a bmp and make 6 copies (according to the number of turn of your battle). We need symbols to represent our models. They have to be easily readable. I’ve created mines with Paint (poor but useful). I have created some for each faction but you could create yours (with small pictures it would be nice). Example: ![]() You can download this pic by right-clicking on it and selecting "Save image as..." Now serious things. We need a soft with the ability to manage transparent color. I use Photofiltre which got a few useful stuffs (arrows, stamps, etc). This soft is downloable on every good download web site. Open your « symbols » file and save it as a gif (or any other file format which handle transparency). Define background color as a transparent color et voilà ! When you will drag & drop, you will not have an odd white square around your model symbol. Next step is simple: place the model symbols where they were at the turn beginning. Then add actions made by units. Example (a bit overloaded but this round was bloody!): ![]() Do this for each turn and finally you get the battle movie. Now the legend I use: ![]() You can download this pic by right-clicking on it and selecting "Save image as..." Writing the Report Any text editor where you can insert pictures will be usable. First what’s happening: which scenario has been played? How many points have been used? If it was a home-made scenario you should describe it. Then list units for each faction with options and calibres. Last describe deployment. Now let’s go. For each turn describe, with your notes and picture you’ve just made, what have happened. Separate Snap-fire actions of Lock-fire actions. It is better to write actions in chronological order (easier if your notes are detailed). If you succeed in doing this for each turn then congratulations! You’ve just finished your Battle Report. You can add a few lines about your feelings and comments, it will help to remember the lesson if you have been crushed. I hope these lines will give you enough courage to write Battle Report and to keep on increasing the number of articles about Urban War.
